BlocFit - Brixton
Type of Wall: Bouldering
Parking: There is paid parking available weekdays 08:30–17:30 weekdays for up to four hours on Shakespeare Road. Outside of those times, the street parking is free. There is no blue badge parking available directly outside the wall.
Access to reception: Access to the reception area is step free although the ground outside is broken concrete so not entirely smooth.
Access to the walls: Within the reception area, there are 35° and 45° “woody” climbing walls. The rest of the climbing facilities are only available via stairs usually. However, with notice, the street-facing entrance to the second archway where the gym is housed on the ground floor could be opened by staff. This still leaves the main bouldering area (upstairs in the first arch) and the sauna and endurance board (upstairs in the second arch) inaccessible except via a staircase.
Access to the main bouldering gym is via a narrow stairway with approximately 13 steep steps. There is a handrail.
In the main bouldering gym, you will find a 40° degree wall, a long vertical wall, a slab wall, and two 20° walls with features. In a second archway which is ordinarily accessible via leaving the first archway through the reception area – two steps out to the yard – there is a gym area at ground level. This gym includes free weights, hangboards, machines including a shoulder press, leg press and squat rack.
Upstairs in the second archway is the sauna, next to which is a cold water tap for filling up buckets for the sauna, as well as an endurance board, spray board and campus board. Access to the upstairs area of the second archway resembles the first as previously described. In the yard outside of the back of the two archways is a shower and bicycle parking.
Accessible Toilet Facilities: There are two gender neutral toilets on the ground floor, there is one step to access these. The sinks are outside the cubicles and there is no wheelchair accessible toilet.
There is a single shower outside in the yard which is there for the purposes of the sauna. A shower is required before entering the sauna. The water currently runs cold only but there might be warm water available from mid-October.
Additional Information:
Lockers - There are cubby holes downstairs in the changing room area as well as small lockers for the purposes of wallets and phones. These are operated via a refundable £1 coin. If you have larger valuables like laptops, the staff may be able to place these in the locked setting cupboard behind the staff desk.
Food & Drink - Coffee, tea, cold canned drinks and protein bars and shakes are available at reception.
There is a water fountain in reception for filling up water bottles.
Cycle Parking - There are cycle racks inside the building opposite the entrance to the changing rooms and outside in the yard. Cyclists are encouraged to make use of these rather than street cycle parking in the area.
